I had the opportunity to visit the inside of a mobile hospital lately and it was very nice. You might have seen those RV that are converted to mobile hospitals that visit those who can’t travel for medical care.
It was remarkable inside. It didn’t look exactly like this picture, but it was close. Even better they had Internet connectivity. Remember the Cradlepoint wireless devices I wrote about before? They had used those.
Interestingly when I asked how their experience was, they said it was slow, but of course that depends on the signal strength in the neighborhood. Even though I have an iPhone 6, I had a bad signal strength in the neighborhood as well. You really can’t change the wireless strength, just complain to the wireless vendor.
So the medical bus that I looked at a dentist chair/office, a lobby area, a private office area, and then something like a surgical table at the back. They were amazing with everything they could do. Did you know you could get things like a flu shot, or routine medical care taken care of there? In addition you didn’t have to be low-income, you could have regular health insurance and also take advantage of it.
The bus apparently made a regular visit to this charity on a weekly basis. The bus also visited other charity locations as well. It had a nurse practitioner which is basically a doctor. It had someone who was obviously the bus driver, and another gentleman who was probably the clerk/security. It was immaculately clean. It smelled nice which surprised me. You just figured that a confined space is going to smell worse.
When I left the bus a line was starting to form outside. It was amazing to see everyone gathering to get help. Your perception changes of life when something that you take for granted is out of reach for so many people. For me, I had never had to use a bus for medical help. For many of these people, perhaps the bus is the only way they have gotten medical help. One day perhaps medical care will be equally available to everyone.
